As a broad field of study, memory studies have started to gain intensity since the 20th century by being handled with different disciplines. Individual memory, which focuses on the individual who is the subject of memory and turns to the life stories of individuals, constitutes one of the memory studies. The aim of this study is to have information about the life story of Canip Aydın, a local performer from Erzurum, and to determine the folk songs sung in Taşlıyurt Mahallesi (Ağzehir Village) of Erzurum, where he was born and raised, by making use of the interviews with the person within the framework of individual memory. In the study, the data were collected by source scanning and interview techniques. The interview data of the source person Canip Aydın's life story were interpreted using descriptive analysis. In the modal analysis of the folk songs compiled from him, the Melody Centered Approach was taken as the basis. As a result of the interviews, 39 folk songs were compiled. It has been understood that the effects of makam in the compiled folk songs consist of melodic movements that occur with the use of three, four or five pitchs. The fact that the resource person Canip Aydın participated in the cultural entertainment practices of the group, of which he was a member for many years, and therefore, performing practices related to music with plenty of repetition, was the main determining factor in keeping his memory alive.
