Abstract

Functions of the Dervish as an Trickster İmage in Azerbaijani Fairy Tales

Abstract

Trickster images form a system of images that play an important role in the text of a fairy tale. The name Dervish is a terminology, and it includes the characters system, which is related to it from a functional point of view. Therefore, it is expedient to comprehensively study the image of a dervish, which is included in the system of trickster images in fairy tales. In fairy tale texts, some of the images included in this complex have both positive and negative qualities. The listed functions of the dervish are recorded: 1. The function of procreation, 2. The function of guidance, 3. The function of informing, 4. The function of giving magic, 5. The function of translating, 6. The function of giving, 7. The function of fortune

The dervish's reproductive function ensures the hero's transition from a state of chaos to a state of space. The dervish can simultaneously perform the function of providing information along with the function of guidance. The information function ensures that the dervish character informs the hero about the place and events he will encounter. The hero, who received a magic tool, changes his status and gets new opportunities to get out of a critical situation. With the transformation function, the transfer of an object or being from one state to another is realized. The protagonist transitions from a state of chaos without a name to a state of the cosmos by means of a name. Since the fulfillment of this function is of a sacred nature, both the name, the one who gives the name, and the one who is named have the status and sanctity of wisdom.
